There was much fanfare with the unveiling of Apple's new laptop MacBook
Air. This is not so much of a review of the new MacBook, but a request.
First off, there's no doubt that Apple has a great operating system in Tiger and also with Leopard once you've got all the updates necessary to make it run smoothly. We think you could put that operating system on most any modern laptop or computer and be thrilled.
So here, we're talking about the MacBook Air, not the operating system, and what we wish had been developed instead.
There's nothing wrong with the MacBook Air, per se. It's sleek, very thin, elegantly designed and fast. It's a perfect mobile machine for business, students and even some graphic designers who need mobility for certain jobs. It can do video, to a point, and is very easy and light to carry.
It's not, nor is it meant to be, a real replacement for any powerful desktop computer for tougher graphic or video editing. And that's okay. But. . . .
We wish Apple had also revealed a new MacBook Pro that uses the same small logic board foot print that would allow one quad core processor or even two, if the heat issue were figured out, to be the new standard.
Imagine a mobile machine that can really do graphics and video like a desktop. Forget being thin for the mobile video pro, be powerful. Use the ability to cram those chips into a small area to garner more power. Got rid of the CD/DVD drive? Great! That space in the new MacBook Pro is perfect for a second hard drive.
So you would have two hard drives in this new MacBook Pro. The main drive at 7200 RPM and the second drive at 7200 RPM. Perfect for Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack and Photoshop.
We love the MacBook Air. It's just that video and graphic pros need a new MacBook Pro.
